What the job involves
- Loading and unloading lorries
- Moving and stacking pallets in racking
- Daily checks on the truck before use
- Working safely around people on foot
What employers look for
- Lift-truck training for the type of truck the site uses
- A strong safety record
- Attention to detail with stock locations
There's no official "forklift licence". In Great Britain, HSE says there is no state system for training lift-truck operators, and employers must make sure operators are trained - training providers issue certificates as evidence (HSE: lift trucks FAQs). In Northern Ireland the regulator is HSENI.
