What the application asks for
You apply on the employer's own website, so the employer decides what to ask for - some want only your contact details and a few questions, others ask for a CV. If you need one, keep it short: your contact details, the jobs and shifts you've done, and any relevant training. CV advice.
Show them what a CV can't
If the employer you apply to uses BeCareers screening, you'll get a short screening conversation about the role - about five minutes, in your own language, when it suits you. It's your chance to say:
- what you have done, even if it was never on paper - family business, events, volunteering, cooking for a crowd
- which shifts and days you can do
- why you want this job
- anything a CV would leave out, like a gap you'd like to explain
People at the employer read your answers and make hiring decisions. What to expect from a screening.
Tips
- Keep answers short and give one real example
- Be honest about what you haven't done yet, and say you're keen to learn
- Check your phone number and email are right - that's how they'll reach you
Questions people ask
Do I need a CV to apply for hospitality jobs?
It depends on the employer. On GetMeHired, the Apply button takes you to the employer's own application page, and the employer decides what to ask for.
What if an employer asks for a CV and I don't have one?
A short, simple CV is enough: your contact details, the jobs and shifts you've done, and anything relevant such as a food hygiene course. Our CV advice page can help.
How do I show what I can do without much on paper?
If the employer uses BeCareers screening, you'll get a short conversation about the role where you can describe your experience, the shifts you can do and why you want the job.
